rectum another 5,470. Growths in the rectum itself account for about one-third of the large bowel tumours, followed by growths of the sigmoid colon ; but no part of the large intestine is privileged to be exempt from this disease. Although it is somewhat arbitrary on pathological grounds to differentiate growths of the rectum from the rest of the large bowel, differences in clinical features, diagnosis, and management do give this division some practical value. The rest of these notes are therefore confined to the colon and caecum.

Effects of Trichostatin A on the Histone Deacetylases (HDACs), Intrinsic Apoptotic Pathway, p21/Waf1/Cip1, and p53 in Human Neuroblastoma, Glioblastoma, Hepatocellular Carcinoma, and Colon Cancer Cell Lines

Background:  The aberrant and altered patterns of gene expression play an important role in the biology of cancer and tumorigenesis. DNA methylation and histone deacetylation are the most studied epigenetic mechanisms. Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACIs) such as valproic acid (VPA) and trichostatin A (TSA) are a group of anticancer compounds for the treatment of solid and hematological canc...

Synchronous carcinoma of the ascending colon and caecum.

The caecum and the ascending colon are the colon segments most frequently affected by tumoral synchronism. Synchronous colorectal carcinoma etiopathogenesis is complex and most likely by malignancy of preexisting adenomas (adenoma-adenocarcinoma sequence). The following tumoral synchronism clinical case's particularity is represented by the simultaneous diagnosis of a flat-type adenocarcinoma o...

Synchronous Detection of Dual Neoplastic Malignant Disease: Adenocarcinoma of the Caecum and Renal Cell Carcinoma

We present an example here of pathologically documented and coexistent double malignant tumours of the colon and kidney. In the case reported, an adenocarcinoma of the caecum-colon was detect first whilst the renal tumour was discovered by chance during staging prior to surgery. Both tumours were asymptomatic and the characteristics of the renal mass (suggestive for primary tumour) excluded the...

Treatment of Colon Carcinoma Tumors by Electrolysis: Effect of Electrical Dose and Polarity

Introduction: As a physical treatment, electrochemical therapy (ECHT) has provided an effective and useful  approach  for  treating  localized  tumors.  The  chemical  changes  due  to  a  direct  electric  current  destroy  the  tumor. This study evaluates the effect of electrical dose and polarity on the efficacy of the treatment of a  colon tumor model.  Materials and Methods: In order to in...

Effect of valproic acid on SOCS1, SOCS3, JAK1, JAK2, STAT3, STAT5A, and SOCS5B in hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cell line

Background and aim: Aberrant activation of diverse intracellular signaling pathways involved in differentiation, cell growth, apoptosis. These pathways include known oncogenic pathways such as Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway. The JAK/STAT signaling pathway plays an important role in many cellular functions. This pathway can be activated by variou...
